4AFE History Help!

Hey guys i was wondering if anyone knew what year toyota introduced the 4afe(1.6l) engine into the corolla's.

I believe it was in 1990. This same engine first came out in 1988 but as the 4af and it was carburated. In 1990 it was named the 4afe and it had fuel injection.

That is basically the only difference. Now we could get into more details about other aspects of the car but the carburator and fuel injection is the only difference with regards to the engine.

He already answered that question. The 4AF was introduced in 1988 but it wasn't until 1990 that the 4AFE, the fuel injected model, was introduced.. the 4AF was carbureted.

Earliest record of 4A-FE I have is cars built in December of 1987 in the European Carina II. Earliest U.S. usage was in 2/88 in AE95 Corolla All-Trac (AWD) saloons and estates. AE92 saloons, coupés and estates had it beginning with 8/89 production. I've found the 1.5-litre 5A-FE in production as early as 5/87.

yea the 1.8 i believe is based off of the 4afe with a different head and stroke. correct me if im wrong

7AFE is a stroked 4AFE, but the head is probably the same since it's still FE head.

No. The only reason I know that about the 4A and 7A is because I looked up the specs for A series engine.
