just get the rad hoses from toyota, I'd trust OEM more than aftermarket ones. Besides if you're thinking about braided ones, my opinion is that their trash, you cant see if they're leaking.
you have to get specific hoses. you can't just pick up any generic hose and use it or else you'll be stuck with the same problem you had started out with.....the hoses will implode and destroy themselves and starve the engine of coolant.
rad hoses are specifically bent and stiffened for each application. so goto either toyota or crappy tier and ask them for either upper or lower rad hoses for an 88 ae92.
Well you can use hoses that are reinforced against being imploded, I'd like to use clear hoses, looks neat with coolant running through them Plus you'd see if you're depleted of coolant :-) I've been looking into that for a while now, but I'm too scroogy to throw away the OEM ones Btw the OEM ones are braided too, but the braids are inside the rubber...
Because thats what the engine is from. You should know because I bought the car off you. I asked for the 88 because I don't know if there would be any difference from the 85 or not. So I felt it would be wise to go with the year of the engine rather than the car.
And seeing how I had no replies last night I just ordered them from Toyota any ways. The only thing I'd like to know is how one hose costs more than the other.
You know what? I'm a stickler for maintenance but I'm still running the ORIGINAL hoses on my '89 4AGE with 350k on them! :o They're still good. Can't argue with that. OEM works fine. I have always run the Toyota Long-Life (non-silicate) coolant (yes I do change it). If you haven't been running non-silicate coolant I hear that it is unwise to switch from one to the other unless you completely flush the system out but good. Otherwise you'll end up with some serious jelly-like crap in your cooling system! Nothing less that a total disassemble & purge.
I just thought of something; if your are running an '88 4AGE in a RWD '85 Corolla you should be running the '85 4AGE hoses. The engine is not installed transverse like it would be in the later FWD GT-S (& FX-16).
