I took my car to a toyota dealer and they said my back brakes were put on backwards, is that a scam to pay $2,000 for? I don't think they could be put on backwards, and if they were then I wouldn't be able to brake good and I'm able to, right?
They also said I had brake lights out, but I don't, so I'm thinking they are trying to get more money.
Never heard that one before! What year Corolla is this? You might have drums on the back if it is an older one. Did they talk about brake pads or just brakes that were backwards?
Dude, buy the haynes maual, I did my first brake job, with my buddies help, it ain't that hard! I got lifetime parts from autozone, I don't drive a street racer, new drums, shoes, rotors, and the best pads they had for I believe $120. The car breaks better than my new 2003 camry with 4 wheel disk and abs!
They are rapping you man! That is BS! If you don't want to DIY, then call some shops and tire and brake shops and get comp quotes. A brake job can be done be any qualified mechanic or DIY dude!
You should get an estimate in writing, and when it is proven bs report them to the bbb.org or consumer affairs. Sorry for the flame, but that is bogus!
wait a minute they want to charge you 2000.00 to fix the supposed backwards rear brakes. WTF. How long ahve the brakes been on, have you had any trouble with them, and last but not least why would you take the car to the dealer you can find so many different shops to do brakes on your car at a lot cheaper prices.and like karugs said you cant put the rear brakes on backwards. Even if you could it wouldnt cost that much to fix them.

Did they really say $2,000? Or was it $200? ( For 1992's the whole car would probably sell for less than $2000. ) If you have a written estimate, read it calmly and tell us what they were going to replace. Was it only the brakes or were more parts involved. I have found service at my own local Toyota dealer to be excellent and honest. It isn't cheap!
I was 99.9% sure they couldn't be put on backwards, but I had to see.
I didn't go in for brakes, I went because I had a few problems which they charged normally and didn't try to rape me with.
I recently bought the car from my girlfriend's parents who are the only owners and kept it in good shape, I've driven it before, known the family for about 4 years and it's never had problems with the brakes.
Yes they said it would be 2,000. When I took it in they looked at everything that was "wrong" and told me bs about brake lights and stuff which I told them not to fix, because they were working and still working when I got the car back. And they missed stuff like the broken overhead light inside the car.
If I knew how to put on brakes, I would put them on, but my brakes are fine, don't have any braking problems, so don't think I need them done just yet. I'll get someone I know to put them on.
I didn't go in for brakes, I went because I had a few problems which they charged normally and didn't try to rape me with.
If you took it in for a few problems then why did they check your whole car over?...I think were missing something here Why didn't you just ask them to show you what they meant by the brakes being on backwards and show you what brake lights were out ? Also ask to see a breakdown on the labor and parts of the estimate then copy it and take it to a AAA certified shop to campare...Its as simple as that...Let us know when you do this I'm interested and I'm sure others here are also...Good Luck....Radd Guy....
After talking with a few of my friends with toyotas they said that the toyota dealer has said that to all of them and they are just trying to get money. They check for "problems" just to see if you'll buy it.
There's no point in going back, I was recommended a shop to go too.
Well that's one way to look at it I guess...Just turn and walk away and act like it never happened leaving another and another person to get screwed over.......I'm just talking for me but I could never do that and live with myself after....I would get a second opinion on the estimate from a certified AAA shop and the list of things wrong with the car and if your Toyota dealer is really trying to give you the shaft by fabricating problems and expenses and you have definite proof, I would threaten and even go to all the way up to the top of Toyota's customer service, the BBB.org, AAA(most Toyota dealerships are AAA certified and they would love to find out about this problem)) and even your newspaper/TV stations, they always have snoops that love exposing things like this, and try to put an end to this scam so others don't get ripped off..........But again that's just me talking and what I would do........Radd Guy....
