AE92 Stereo install question

I am in the midst of installing my cd player, but one thing caught my eye. Do the basic model 1990 Corollas have no rear speakers? I thought they were on the rear shelf, but when I looked thru the trunk, there was nothing there but empty space. I mean, they could have been removed, but there isnt any indication that there were any there before...

My Corolla is a 1990 plain version, with no power anything.

Oh, another quick question: has anyone had any problems installing their CD players in this year Corolla? I had to re install the wiring harness since the precvious owner cut it up, but I cant match two wires---both are green.

Thanks

My 89 was basic and didnt have rear speakers BUT they do run the wire bac htere for ya so installing a set is a snap. When i installed my deck it was all trial and error dude just make sure you use a volt meter so you hook the power wires up correctly.

yeah, my 88 had no rear speakers, i put a sub in the trunk, and two reference speaker boxes on the back deck, sounds pretty good. making the front sound good is the hard part.

Oh, I see. I thought I was going crazy there for a second. This is my first stereo install, so I was having a bit of a hard time. I'll go take a whack at it later. I guess I will need to plan for some rear speakers, then. I am not looking for anything too fancy. I mean, I like the sound of the engine humming, but a person needs his tunes, too

I will be looking for the rear speaker wires in a little bit. Are they going to be on a harness? Sorry for the newbie questions, but this is my first Toyota (my previous was a Nissan 300ZX)....

i have a 91 corolla and when you get all your wires firgured out, make sure to hook up the antenna wire also. it is a secondary ground that u need hooked up for your cd player to work right. that is what i had to do. dont know if you`ll have to do that. but just thought u might want to know

what exactly do you mean "work right"? Wil it work at all, or will it just be full of static, bad reception, etc?

AE92

my old tape deck in my 89 had a ground for each speaker: therefore there was 1 wire going to each speaker (the rear ones were added by the guy before me) and the negative branched to the metal of the car...the rear of the radio had a battery ground, and SP ground(speaker ground). what i suggest, is wat i did, i re-wired the rear myself...i got myself jvc 6x9's and stuck em in boxes cause i couldent stick holes in the rear metal panel right away. i wired them through the side of the rear seats, under the carpet all the way to the front where i pulled them up to my new mp3 cd head unit nd btw the corolla ground for the stock radio is Brown, not black

when i installed my cd player (pioneer premier 360) i had it all hooked up besides the antenna wire and the cd player would turn on but it would keep turning on and off in 5 second intervols untill i plugged in the antenna wire and it stayed on and had no problems since then. so i am not positive if you will have the same problem but just wanted to give you a heads up. i too rewired my rear speakers which made things easier when hooking up speakers for the rear. i rewired the fronts too, but i put aftermarket speakers up front though.

A negative ground speaker system? That is definately not factory! They stopped that in the early 80's!
