1st oilchange.... what oil to use?

Well... its almost that time... The first oilchange on my corolla. It is a 97. It will have 87 000 km on it. I don't want anything fancy. Which motor oil should I use?

5w30-10w40, don't go cheap. If ya do, at least choose one of the common brands. Go with one of the cheapest of those. My suggestion would be quaker state around $2.00 (usa) a quart.

Actually, I pretty much use any ole 10W-40 the current shop is using. I've been threatened about my '98 Camry (110,000 miles now & no sludge) and my '98 Ford F150 (90,000 miles now and no ticking lifters). Both automaker's dealerships told me that I *had* to use 5W-30 and it was highly recommended I use only the Toyota/Motorcraft oils, etc. etc.

Pffffffffffffft

I think it's about 10X more important that you change the oil every 3,000 miles over what *brand* of oil. 10W-40 or 5W-30.....I think either is just fine.

If I didn't go to the local shop & let them change the engine oil, I'd probably buy Castrol myself and I'd choose either weight above but probably mostly choose 10W-40 just 'cuz So Cal gets so dang hot in the summer. That's my .02!

It doesn't really matter Which oil you use, as long its Dino oil and not the recycled ones. my best bet is valvoline or Quaker State.

MOST IMPORTANT. must use OEM filters. Toyota Filters. i've seen so many oil filters, used and oil thats been filtered by OEM filter came out much cleaner than any other brand. its only $7~8. worth the price.

i dunno, never worked with it b4, but always give it a try. but if the pirce was higher then the OEM filter, i say forget it. OEM filter i know for sure, will filter out as much dirt even after 8000km.
