Where to get Tranny Rebuild?

Hello,

I have a 91 corolla gt-s with about 260k on it and the synchros between first and second are worn out resulting in some grinding everytime I shift. I'm thinking of getting the tranny rebuilt or replaced. If I replace it, not sure if there are aftermarket trannys or if stock is the way to go.

I'm wondering if someone can give me some advice as to how to proceed and if there are any good places in Vancouver BC to get this work done. Also, how much I'm looking at having to spend. Thanks a lot guys!

Lawrence

Don't bother man.. it will cost you 3 times more to rebuild the C52 transmission than it would cost you to pick up a C56 transmission from a 20V motor from one of the AE86 guys, since most of them are doing 20V swaps into RWD Corollas, the FWD transmission is basically useless to them.

I recently picked up a C56 transmission from someone in the Toronto area because the tranny in my 89 GTS needs 2nd and 5th gear synchros (345,000km on it), I picked one up with about 60,000km for $100 CDN and I know for a fact there's about 3 or 4 people selling the same transmission for about the same price. I think someone had 3 of them just lying around.

I'll check on Dorikaze.com to see if anyone in BC has a C56 sitting around that they would like to sell. Not sure how much they would go for in BC but I'm thinking $100 to $200 the most, plus labour to get it installed at a shop. I'll let you know.
