You want to put a carburetor on it? Whatever would you do that for? Carburetors can't compensate for air density or temperature changes like an ECU can. You'd be losing a serious amount of power.

Go with some nice weber 40mm DCOE carbs. A downdraft just wouldn't be worth it but a pair of sidedrafts most certainly would be worth it because you would probably gain a little bit of power. However, sidedrafts do have a flat spot in the power curve. They are still a good investment. However the one thing better then sidedrafts are indivdual throttle bodies which you should really look into. They make adaptors to fit the 20V ITB's onto a 16V head.

And why would downdrafts be any worse than sidedrafts?

a downdraft is distributing air and fuel to all 4 cylinder from one air location and fuel from one bowl. With sidedrafts you have air comming in from 4 locations and two fuel bowls. Sidedraft carbs are the samething as indivdual throttle bodies except they are carbs not throttle bodies. A downdraft is just your basic carb so your effeciency wont be that good.

Unless you have two two-throat downdrafts blowing into separate runners. The advantage of downdrafts is that you can increase intake manifold length, which in turn gives you better chances of pulse charging and therefore more power.

Depends on the sidedraft really. Mikuni PHH, Weber DCOE, Dellorto DHLA are basically the main sidedrafts used in cars that have independent runners. Strombergs, Pierburgs and hitachis might have one carb for two cylinders, or even one carb for four, yet they are sidedrafts and can produce alot of power

Carbs and ITB's arent really directly comparable to each other.
