'95 Stereo & speaker question............

OK, mine's a prizm so somebody'll have ta' help me here if the Corolla stereo is completely different from the prizm unit.

Mine is much larger than a typical aftermarket stereo (taller, actually) and I've seen the dash when they don't come with a stereo & there's just a big ole' storage bucket there.
Anybody got a pic of the kit needed to install an aftermarket unit??? (Maybe I could install the oem unit out of my '98 Camry?? LOL)

Anyway, it seems underpowered (unlike my '98 stocker which was rather powerful) so might as well spend the $100 and get a cheap pioneer or something.

Also...................SPEAKERS..................

Rears are fried.....(paper crumbling, etc.).......and fronts sound a bit distorted so wouldn't mind just tossin' 'em. Anybody knows the sizes for fronts/rears??

And do the "fronts" grills simply pop off or does the whole door panel need to come off???

And the rears?? I've heard they're a pain, but haven't looked too hard just yet.

TIA (as usual)

The Prisim unit is a double din unit, and the rolla has a single din unit.

They are physically swapable, the frame around the double din unit or double din basket will accomodate any double or single din appliance.
I'm sure they're the same harness but...
One sure way to find out if they're swapable is to go to any best buy, circut city or ult. elect. and ask to see the aftermarket wiring harness for both cars of the same years.
...or if you get the haynes manual it covers both models.

Its not likely that they're different. Most toyota's of common years and/or gen's use the same harness regardless of model or trim level.

I can't remember off hand what the speaker sizes are ... most people cut the rear supports to accomodate 6x9's

Stock rears are 6 I think. Stock fronts are 4. You will only fit 4 in the front without modification. Also I had to do some filing and cutting to fit some new 6.5s in the back because they were too deep.

Well, that'd be nice if I could actually squeeze some 6.5's back there 'cuz CC has these cheezy Jensens for $18.99!!! .......... http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Jense...oductDetail.do

How the heck did they come about 6's in the rear??? Does anybody actually MAKE a 6????

CC & BB (when using their car profile selector) suggest 5.25's on the Prizm. Dunno if it's all the way around or not, but if there really are 4's int he doors, I gotta get to at LEAST 5.25's up there to get some bigger sound.

I really need to get a look at the cones too to decide whether it's the head unit runnin' outta gas or the speakers just floppin' paper in the breeze to decide where the distortion's comin' from.

(Also left rear ain't workin' at all so it's either toast or I've gotta loose wire somewhere)
