USA Weird 2nd gear

hey guys. I have a 97 corolla ce that has been giving me some grief. Whenever i accelerate, the shift from 1st to 2nd is always a pain, it feels like there's almost a knot in the shifter, and it doesnt like to go into 2nd. It always goes in eventually, but you really have to force it in there. It's not really that much of a problem, just an annoyance. I've driven other cars like mine and they dont do this, but i was wondering if anybody elses shifter does this. thanks in advance for any input

i believe its suppose to be bad for the synros to switch to 1st when moving at 15-20+ mph, my 2nd is hard to switch too, but i think its natural

my suggestion, go to a quiet road roll down the window and try shifting the 1 - 2 listen for a crunch or a grind, also when your shifting feel the shifter it should almost suck in to gear on a really good transmission. the higher the rpm you shift at the more the problem will be persistent. if your hearing crunches or grinds or feeling resistance and or vibration that is a sign the syncronizers are going.

a few other thoughts, sometimes we get lazy and don't fully depress the clutch, might wanna check that

another thought maybe check the clutches hydraulic fluid sometimes dirty fluid can cause wierd problems
