ok i was workin on my engine and i took off the cap for the oil to clean the cap. and when i was cleaning it, my little 2 yr old son comes up and pours water down where the oil is. now my question is, do i have to drain all the oil? and if so, how? also, what would happen if i start the car with water where the oil is?
I would drain the oil and refill. I accidentally got water in the engine oil when I took the filter off to get the thermostat out and forgot to put it back on when I flushed the engine coolant out with water. On 5SFE the oil filter is between the thermostat housing and the exhaust manifold.
I did an oil drain and refilled with new oil and disposed of the oil that was in there. I've seen no ill effects from that but I don't know how much water I got in there to begin with.
Look right under where the engine is and there should be a 14mm bolt. It might be facing down and slightly to the rear at an angle if it's anything like my Camry.
DO NOT REMOVE THE 10mm ALLEN / HEX KEY PLUG. That is the transmission drain plug. If you see the 10 mm hex, your engine oil drain pan is the pan next to it.
also, do not tight the drain plug way too tight, just a snug with a small 14mm wrench will do, over tightening may cause thread to strip on the oil pan.
** IF there was less than 250ml of water got in, dont even bother, it will evaporate itself. no biggy.
side note* if this occurs to anybody again, make sure you do no turn the engine on, drain it b4 so that it wont go thru as much oil passage and oil filter...
aite thx guys, got new oil and everything . runs fine. but quick question, what would have happened if i was retarted enough to start teh car? cuz i almost did lol
then you'll be in a whole new ball game...that requires lotsa money
if you had water in there and you tried to start the engine, it may seize. I forget the term...i know...Hydrolock
am i right?...correct me people

if you did start it accidentally, it wouldn't have done much damage, what happens when water and oil mixed togather is it turns foamy and by the looks lf it, milky. al you would hafto do is drain (and turn on engine for 10sec while cold), add new oil w/new filter, flush (hope fully with foam inhibitor) and drain and and refill again with new filter and that should be able to take out as much water outta the system.
It all depneds on how much water was poured into the engine. There is water in your engine oil most of the time anyway due to condensation and things like that. Fuel also gets into it when it blows by the piston rings. A little bit of water will not hurt naything as the majority of it will evaporate throught e pcv system. Like someone said it would more than likely jsut foam up when it ran you would need to do a couple of drain and refills and then you would be good to go.
