USA Question on a small symptom which I don't know what causes it.

Hi guys,
I have a 1999 Corolla VE, stripped down with the AC only.
I can't seem to pin point the problem and neither can the dealer.
The car only has 3 gears and every time the gear shift up, the car would sorta like pull back for a second and continue on as normal. This occurs when shifting up to 2nd and 3rd but nothing on down shifting. It's an automatic. I have driven many different cars and when the gear shifts up, the car would take off on the next gear and not get pull back a little like this one. This car never had any accident much less major accidents according to car fax. From inspection, I don't see any physical signs of accident. The problem is more pronounce when I push the gas pedal too hard. I wonder if a fuel filter could be it? I doubt it since there's no other symptoms.
Other than that, the car runs perfectly.
It has a timing chain and I was wondering, since this is my first car with chain, what sort of service does it need? Is replacement of the chain part of the services down the line?
Services recently done:
-Transmission oil changed with differential changed.
-Engine oil.
-Air filter replaced.
-Brakes checked.
The car only have 89000 miles on it. Even the mechanic says that the car looks like new more like a 2003 model.
This coming Thursday, I will:
-Spark plugs change.
-PCV valve change.

Thanks.

what is odometer reading?

I once heard on cartalk (npr program) that this may be due to transmission probs (but i am not exactly sure of your prob..).. Change of grears should be smooth(less than a sec). I am noticing a similar prob in my 93 corolla (146K).. i am planning to work on tranny oil change...

may be some wear of mech components (tranny)..

did u check the color of tranny fluid.. may be you need a change now..

look for any debris when you change tranny fluid.

There's no slamming noise, it actually quiet when it's happen. The mechanic that I asked to change my transmission oil was an expert on transmission and this was all he does, transmission.

1999 Toytoa camry 4cyl

Hey....I just had a problem with my car. I was on the freeway and the car all of a sudden felt like it was loosing traction......kind of a slight lundging motion. Came to find out that my valve cover gasket was broken so oil was flooding a cylinder head and in turn shorting out a spark plug. He replaced the gasket, put in a new set of plugs and it was good to go!
