I had a similar problem when I installed my black reverse gauges. The speedo didn't work, the o/d light flashed and the tranny used to race and wouldn't shift sometimes till 6k rpms. Turns out one of the pin connectors in the back of the gauge clusted wasn't fully clicked it. Scared the hell out of me cause I couldn't fathom how installing gauges would've screwed with my tranny.
This obviously doesn't pertain to you but the effects from that sound like what your experiencing.
