No, I think the OP's problems are caused by the DRM protection in some of his "purchased" files. They will only play on certain players. DRM is one of the most evil things out there. On a PC, you can hack and beat any form of DRM (whether it be on MP3s or DVDs). But your car's player is a much simpler device.
I've burned 110 songs on a data CD. Varying compression on the MP3 files between 128Kbps to 320Kbps. I've had a couple of WMAs in there, too. Played each and every file no problem.
