In either application, DVD or HD, there is going to be something spinning. I mean, how does a DVD player read the DVD disk? Spins right?

The avic z2 has 30g of space, 10g of which is devoted to all your media (i.e. music, pics, yadda yadda). So, in essence, what you have is 10g's of space to store all the music you want. Not only that, but the z2 can rip the music from the cd you put into it and store it on the HD. Thats was one of the biggest selling points for me.
