I am thinkin' 16deg...... i read up on it on a neat site.....

Just want to know if anyone has done it.... and if they got any gain.... or prob's..???

Most of the guys with that engine probably got Camry 4cyl and would never try to advance timing.Anyways your very welcome here if you want sorry i did not respond to your post i would have told you how for sure.What year Celica you got and what kind of mods ?

Our engines adjust timing automatically. If you wanna get technical, your question was technically wrong because advancing the timing does nothing since it will be automatically readjusted anyway. You should have asked how to ADVANCE BASE TIMING. That can be done using a timing run and very fine hands! haha

So what did you bump it upto? What are the results? Did you have to switch to higher Octane gas? Any pinging or misfiring?

there are only 2 blots you have to loosen if you want to adjust your timing. you also need to jump your computer so that it will make the change. i can remember what the names are of the 2 holes but i'll take a look. also it would be good to use a timing light so that you don't over do the timing. i did it at the track but while i was so into the racing i forgot to use the computer. so as i maually sdjusted it and ran it on the track i forgot to jump the comp so that it would make the changes so i don't know how much effect it would have had. but when i got home i did it right and felt a little difference

if you bridge the e1 to t1 it will drop to base timing then if you time it to 15 degrees it will give you the most optimal power, and it wont detinate like it will any more advanced, i spent a weekend trying to mess with timing and this is the best compromise.
