Canada New to the world of Celica

I recently bought a 1991 Celica GT with 180,000 km. The body is in pretty good shape except for both front fenders which have rusted out above the wheels. I think this is pretty common from the many celicas ive seen like this. The car is in pretty good shape otherwise, being rustproofed religiously. THe only problems it has are some rust in the break and gas lines. It has a pretty wicked fuel leak above the gas tank which i think is a pressure line coming from the sender. I'm just trying to gauge how much money i'm going to have to put into this thing to get it running respectively. I only paid $200 Canadian for it so i feel I got a pretty good deal.

Please let me know what you think.

OH! If anyone knows of a place to get aftermarket fenders please let me know! Not the z3 ones like i've been seeing on ebay..

thanks

Mike

Was $200 a good deal for a car with problems like this?

Yes, you did very well!

Filler pipe is most likely the cause of your fuel leak. Does it only leak when you fill the tank up? if so, put only 3/4 of a tank in I had a similar problem on my 91 GT

brake lines and fuel lines can be replaced, should not be much trouble / labour.

Your car is worth ~ 3000 cdn, the repairs should cost you no more than 500.

As for the wheel wells, yes they often times to rust, especially here in canada! fenders can be replaced cheaply from a junk yard, or if its only surface rust, sand and repaint.

try to treat rust as you see it forming, its like a cancer that spreads quickly, I know from experience

As for the rust i agree with "evo" you can pick up fenders a the local junk yard for cheep, for the lines.. Replace them, in the end it will give you a better mind set knowing that the brakes and gas lines a safe.. after all we dont want you to let that $200 investment go to a waste.

Edward.
