How much would you sell this heap for?

I hope I'm not in trouble for not posting this in the For Sale forum, but this is more of a question, and buyers are the ones likely to browse the For Sale topic , and my question might not get answered as easily there.

Basically, I know very little about buying/selling and am curious what some of you would suggest as an asking value for a celica I'm trying to get rid of. Some people have told me I'd be lucky to get $100 out of it, but I just wanted to ask around.

It's a 95 Celica (ST I think)

That I know of, it has these problems:
- Doesnt start, likely needs new battery and/or alternator.
- Doesnt pass echeck (they said engine is running too hot, producing too much of whatever bad gasious stuff)
- Has slow oil leak.
- No horn

- Windsheild wipers come on at random and only they decide when they'll turn off.
- Primary hood lock doesn't latch
- One headlight (lift light) wont retract.
- Cassette player eats tapes
- Radio dial light burned out
- Passenger door has a small dimple-dent with cracked paint

So what do you think would be fair? Giving it away? lol

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Probably an 85, if he's guessing around $100.

Oops, you are correct. It's a 92.

My new car is a 95 and it was stuck in my brain.

in that case not a $1000 ST are not ver saught after. If you got a grand you should be very happy... more than likely like $500 for a parts car

Your best bet would be to first get a starting point from NADA or Kelley's Blue Book. They both ask condition and mileage to more accurately give a price range. Then subtract a fair amount for any additional repairs that are needed which are not reflected.

Also look in your local auto sales books, newspaper classifieds, etc. Get an idea of what others are asking and again reduce yours by a fair amount for the repairs.

Here are a couple of examples out of my local classifieds. Hope it helps.

1992 TOYOTA CELICA
144K mi, motor replaced w/80K mi motor. Lots of extra work done. Cheap on fuel. $3500

1992 TOYOTA CELICA GT
Blue. 5-spd. Fully loaded w/moon rf. Clean. Runs great. No title. $1000/bo; (Pawtucket, RI)
