help with 2000 6sp 1st gear 'noise'
I have a 2000 GTS 6sp. When I shift into 1st gear after starting the engine, I hear a brief metal-spinning sound as the clutch is being pulled out and gas is being applied. It's not really a grind, but the sound you get when two spinning plates -slightly- seperate and rub against each other (best way i can describe it)
This only occurs on the very first shift into 1st gear after starting the engine. Subsequent shifts into 1st sound and feel perfectly normal, it's just that very first time I engage 1st gear.... I don't know what's up, my gut says it's a bad synchro, but I don't think you use a syncro in first gear. Because, you're stopped with the clutch in, the car isn't already moving, so you don't have anything to "sync" up with... but I've never experienced this sort of thing before so I don't know what it's really like.
The clutch is still good, and the car pulls just fine. It's definatley not slipping. Are there any gearheads on the forum that can give some insight?
