5sfte.... blown head gasket???

I was driving and had a massive loss in power, turbo was not spooled. At the time there was also some minor knocking/ticking but that is gone now.

Spark plugs look fine. timing system BTM is fine as well as cap and rotor.

I did a compression test and these where my results

cyl 1 145
cyl 2 150
cyl 3 60
cyl 4 60

lowest is 142 and the highest/normal is 178 i figure 145-150 is normal with an engine with 190k miles on it.

when i put the compression gauge on cyl 3 gas and air stuff comes out of 4 and when i do the test on 4 same happens with 3. And both have the same comprssion numbers.

Im pretty sure that my head gasket has gone between the 3 and 4 cylinder.

Why it doesnt knock now im not sure. But i think its because when i was driving it the borken head gasket was allowing for presure to "leak" in to the 3 and 4 cylinders, as they are open to eachother, throws of the timing and stuff of the individual cylinder at the time?

Ive kept the engine at 3k while in nutreal and the there is no knocking at all.

Where can i find a metal head gasket? for a 5sfe.

What esle could be rong? valves perhaps, howerver i doubt it?

whats ur ideas?

have you done a leak down test? Also with the engine cold, open the radiator cap and see if bubbles appear, if they do, you have combustion gases entering the coolant.

leak down test will be good though. But is the engine overheating?

on the valve cover remove the part where you put oil in. If it looks a little milk like, (white with brown) then you pretty much busted the head gasket. It doest sound like a valve because then it would have been making noise. On my car, I experienced the same thing on piston number 2 but i have a 3sgte. My piston was chipped.
You mentioned you weren't spooling. What kind of fuel pump did you have?
Sounds like you probably leaned out like I did.
Im guessing your pistons messed up or you messed up your piston rings.

you need a compressed air supply to do a leak down test. they have a gauge set specifically for a cylinder leak down test. you blow a certain amount of air into each cylinder at TDC and see if there is an excessive amount of leakage. air leakage out the exhaust indicates a leaking exhaust valve, out the oil fill cap a leaking intake valve, out the cylinder either piston rings or head gasket. but if you blow air into number 3 or 4 and it blows up through the other one, then you have a leaking head gasket.

Unless you plan on milling both your block and head ($$$$) do not use a metal HG. Waste of money and will only lead to more head work in near future.
Check your gromets and seals on your injectors. No milk, no bubbles.
I'm gonna agree with prev. post rings and seals which means new headdy anyway. Plus timing belt, and might as well hit the valves. Unless you do the work yourself it is spendy. But do it all at the same time. Other wise you will be buying some of the same things over and over.
Never time to do it right, always time to do it twice.
