ignition sticks...

i have a '91 celica gt. every now and then the ignition sticks and i cant turn the key at all, but it still moves freely in and out. it takes awhile, but usually it comes unstuck and i can start the car. however this last weekend my car sat for 2 days cuz i couldnt get the key to turn, and being a delivery girl its essential my car starts when needed. is this a problem thatll get worse as time goes by? and is this a problem i could easily fix?

Well, first the obvious, which Im sure you tried...

Wiggle the steering wheel back and forth

If that doesn't work, call yor local locksmith and see if they have a mobil service to come and fix it. Probobly cost $40-60. Cylinder needs to be removed and cleaned/coated and lubriacated. Wouldnt reccomend doing it yourself.

Anyone have any other ideas/suggestions ?

I had a different problem with a 1987 GT where I had to replace the ignition. It was pretty easy. I removed the plastic on the steering column. There is a small hole in the top of the ignition where I used a small philips screwdriver to push into. Then turned the key and viola, it pulled right out.

A new ignition was over $100 from Toyota and the locksmith wanted another $60 to do the job, and that was if I could get the car to him. It was another $30 for him to come to me. I got one at the junk yard for $15. The hardest part is finding one with the key in it.

Good luck!

thanx. hopefully i can get around to that in the next couple of days...
i also have this REAL annoying thing with my trunk, not sure if it was recall or something but if i open my trunk the wrong way the back corners of the trunk top get bent, and its a b*tch to get them lay flush again. plus it takes off paint
i know how to open it right, but the cops that periodically search my car dont, so it keeps getting messed up... has any one else had this problem? with the car, that is
