Need Help please...

I currently replaced a bad alternator that was not giving out a charge, and the battery so far reads in the 11.7 with out car running....the car still isnt starting with out a jump..Could a bad starter now be the problem...I even replaced the wiring harness to the alternator cause it seemed melted.....its a 2001 celica gts...and help would really help my stress about this whole situation...took me all day to get that damn belt tensioner to move....thanks for your time.......

Well, I know that the battery should read at 13-14 to be in good condition. Under the tweelves means the battery is done for. What does the car do when you put it in the on position? Do the lights turn on in the vehicle. Like the radio or the dash? I would try to get the battery charged at a mechanic shop before replacing it. Have you messed with the cars timing?

Thanks for the info....well after replacing the alternator and getting a jump i disconnected the batter all together and the car stayed on, so I know I did that part right, and went and got a new battery most likely while you were posting your response, and so far its working....so hopefully that will work, thanks for the reply though, its much apprieciated.....happy holidays.....

Was probably just a dead or shorted cell in the battery. That can cause the alternator to heat up from working too hard. Without the car running the voltage sould be around 12 to 12.5. 13 to 14.5 would be with the car running.
