building my engine ideas

Alright, here's the deal. I live in Ontario, Canada. Emissions, cops and insurance are pretty hard on us, making the turbo route a bit hard to follow.

Second thing is, I want to build something different, for once. I would like to stay N/A. I don't care if I'm not pushing 300 whp, I just want something peppy enough, that I made myself.

I am fairly new to Toyota, coming from the world of Hondas.

Before I start, I have a 91 Celica GT with the 5SFE.

From the information I have gathered, the 5SFE is pretty much a 3SGE with more stroke, fuel efficent head, bla bla bla.

What I was thinking of doing, was building a 2.1, with the crank out of a 3SGE, this way I have less stroke, higher revving. That would also involve higher compression pistons because of the loss of stroke.

I would also slap on a 3SGE head, with intake, computer and the whole shabang. And most likely run a fuel management system of some kind.

I am aware that I might have to drill the cooland passages, that's no big deal.

I need more information on wich parts I need to use. I think I will need a 3SGE out of a 4th gen celica GTS. What about the piston rods? and is there any high compression pistons available for that 5SFE?

Unless you guys have any other ideas?

First 3S-GE crank won't fit on the 5S-FE block. Also you won't get 2.1, you'll get 2.0. Same bore, same stroke, same volume.
Head over to Carmy fourm and read the stickies. Also do a search on 5S-GE, 5S-GTE.

What?!!!
The 3SGTE/5SFE cranks have the exact same main journal size. Which means so does the 3SGE.
And the 5SFE has a larger bore than the 3S [87mm vs 86mm]

Why don't you just build a 3SGE? That is basically what you would have from the above....
With a much heavier piston [if your going to shorten the stroke and raise the c:r that much]

^Didn't we need to grind the crank to fit? That's why most will just use the 5S block to build a 5S-GTE. I might be wrong too.

I'd have to agree with alltracman. Just build a 3sge. If you're feeling really adventurous, import a beams 3sge. Plenty of NA power there.

You have to grind ROD journals, IF you're not going to use 5SFE size rods.
But the main is identical. You can stick it in a 3S to make a stroker....

don't forget custom drilled oil lines to keep the 5sfe block lubricated.
