foot-pounds and inch-pounds! WTF?!?!

Ok, my torque wrench reads: "newton-meters" and "inch-pounds." My haynes manual gives all torque specs as "foot-pounds."

How do I convert the foot-pounds to "inch-pounds" or "newton-meters?"

Thx.

perhaps you bought a torque wrench that was simply too small.

I bet its a 3/8 too.

oh, and by the way, 12in pounds equal 1 foot pound.

Surprise, you can't torque your wheels with that thing.

Thx guys, it is small but it can do some things. I found this conversion chart online.

http://worldatlas.com/aatlas/infopage/metric.htm

1.3830 Foot-pounds = 1 Newton-meter

0.7380 Newton-meters = 1 foot-pound

So its small but I can do some things with it.

Thx all.

Alot of components with a gasket or seal do not need that much torque, and the smaller (21 ft-lb) torque wrench gives you finer control and easier to adjust in it's range (ie 1 to 20 ftlbs)
than the larger capacity 0 to 150 ftlb torque wrench.

Think of it like a scale, and what scales are used at the deli shop and what scales are to measure a truck of meat.

if you've ever done your valve covers/intake plenum, or even retorqued your tranny plug, you'd know that you need the smaller torque wrench as a must- those aren't bolts you want to be overtorquing
