check engine light

I have a 2000 Celica, and my check engine light went on a few months ago for about a week, then it came back about a month later......so i was wondering if anyone can give me some pointers on how to check it myself just to see what could be wrong, or if i even can. thanks!

Think you can go to someplace like autozone and they'll read the code for you.

engine light questions??

Hows it goin.. I've had that same problem with my 2000 celica gt.. but not to worry to much.. its probably an o2 senor. You can take it up to autozone or where ever they have the code readers.. just to tell ya. I havent replaced any of the o2 senors and my engine lights been on for a while. I've been keepin an eye on my gas mileage.. but untill it starts to suck i would replace them.. i drive really aggressively and get around the low 30's.. when i first bougth it and was being easy to it, i'd get around 35 to 37ish.. just keep a clean air filter in there and ur oil changed every 3k and u should be fine.. hope this helps.. just wonderin how fast u had ur celica up to??? mine to the floor 118mph, u know of any limiters??.. catch ya later..

i run into these quit often at my work (toyota), the most common code is the evap code,
this could be set by a loose gas cap. or you might have a bad vsv. check the gas cap make sure it's tight and not leaking any gas vapors. check that the hose are connected to the vsv's at the air box. you can clear the code by removing the 15 amp efi fuse for 20 seconds (key off). then reistall it. an evap code wont hert it it's an emissions thing...
