GT-S Fuel Requirement

I am considering replacing my GT with a GT-S and am concerned as to the Premium fuel requirement for the 180 HP engine. Can it be safely operated on regular unleaded fuel? Thanks, Tom

Don't be so cheap. Premium is the cheapest it's been in a hundred years!!!
Now premium is 10% more than regular. given that gas is now little over $2.00. and premium is usually 20 cents higher.

2 years ago gas was $1.30 and premium was $1.50 a 15% higher tab.

usually it depends. I noticed that my 99 celica gt runs great on 91 but runs really crappy on 87. The gas also goes by a lot faster when I use 87. what Ive also noticed was that it depends on what the original owner of the car started using. for example, my car has always been pumped on 91 so if it gets something with lower octane it will run crappy. Samething happens to my cousins car. Some cars just require a higher octane so that it will be able to combust right in the combustion chamber. I guess, try 87 and if it runs bad use 89 or 91.

I am the third owner of a 2000 GT-S, and upon inspection of maintenance records, discovered that the second owner had to replace fuel injectors at 35,000 mi.

I suspect that the original owner may have used regular unleaded, then sold the car -- I will use only 91 or 92 octane, and am very pleased with my car's performance.

It's only an extra dollar or two each time you fill 'er up!

the 2ZZ in your GTS requires 91 or higher becasue of its compression ratio, 11.5:1
I've heard that you can get away with using 89 if you don't use lift or go above 6000rpm. However, if you use 87 your engine will knock like crazy and you can cause engine damage. Use 91 and above...your celica will appreciate it
