USA '00 GTS -Changed Coolant - What Happpened? No Heat & Runs HOT. Air Lock?

This has been easy on every car I've ever owned. Not this one, apparently. I drained the coolant when cold, and followed the under-hood instructions for adding coolant. I have since gone through two heat-cool cycles but have only managed to put in two quarts coolant and 1/2 quart water. Capacity is about 6.3 quarts.

Now the coolant does not seem to be circulating, there is no heat (I figure the heater core is empty) and the engine is running hot.

Do I have "vapor-lock"? Does anyone know what to do next? I'm trying to avoid towing it into the dreaded dealer.

Thanks, Mark

The cover by the thermostat you need to unscrew the bolt pour coolant till it comes out the hole to get the air out of the lines..... then put the bolt back on.
Hope that helps...

Thanks. Although I have not tried this yet, I may not need to, as today on the way into work the heater began working. So far I am on my 5th or 6th heat-cool cycle, and gradually I am getting more coolant in it.

Next time or to anyone else - go to the dealer. This was way too hard - and I was afraid I would blow my head gasket.

Remember when cars were easy to work on?

6 speed,

You have to raise the coolant bottle.
Take the 10mm bolt out that holds the reservoir
There is a place in the bottle where you hook it on top of the hood release latch.
Loosen the cock screw on the bottle while you fill it with coolant. Rev it a few times.

It's a PITA but this is how you should " burp " these 00+ Celica's.
