Gen5 3SGTE-What Gen should I use

I am looking to do the 5SFE to 3SGTE conversion on my 90 Celica GT. I am planning for alot of horse power but am going to start some what moderate like 350 to 400 hp to see how she runs. But my question is that I am going to aquire an AEM stand alone EMS (http://www.coximports.com/store/prod...ic=AEM-30-1120), now with this in mind do I need to buy a 3SGTE 2nd gen to apply with the year that the EMS is made for. someone elese on another forum said that it might is there anyone who might know this for shure before I purchase the engine. THANKS.

You can modify it to work for any year.
It is designed as a plug and play for a 2nd gen.

With that in mind, one word of caution.
AEM says they have one for 90 - 92, and one for 93.
It's actually 90/91 and 92/93.
Toyota changed the wiring in 92, as well as some other stuff.
That is the difference in the 2. Where the wires are. You CAN repin the harness to match the other year if you wanted to.

so your talkin that I should re-pin the harness if needed, correct me if I'm wrong but what you're sayin is to pull the pins out of the connectors and re-allign them as needed for the specific harness that the AEM needs.I have never done this but I have done things simular to it. Do I need a special tool before I start stabing and breaking pins. And if so what is the tool called and maybee where I can purchase one. Thanks

Get a really fine pick to repin.
But you don't need to. Just buy the AEM for the year harness you have....

For repinning, a jeweler's screwdriver set works quite well.
