Clutch problem, seeking help.
Ok, actually, I own a camry, but... I think there are more manual drivers here in celica forum.
96 Camry 5sp
I had my clutch replaced by a local mechanic soon after I purchased the car, due to clutch slipping.
parts: all from toyota, the pressure plate is remanufactured in mexico. I told the shop to resurface my flywheel, they probably just bought a remanufactured one from Kragen, that's what he told me what they usually do.
When I first got it back, it engages very low, very grippy, and as I drive it for a while, it seems to move up a little bit. Then I noticed: the clutch pedal would vibrate quite a bit when I depress it very slightly, as I press it in, the vibration goes away (high rpm felt like dragging). about 300 miles later, nothing much changed. When I have the car idling and put my fingers on both the clutch fork and the transmission casing, I can feel that they are vibrating at different frequency; or at least different directions.
Then I drove it down south to where I go to school, every 5-4th gear down shift felt like I was stepping directly on a moving engine . During this trip, I had to go through LA traffic with another guy and a LOT of stuff in the trunk, so it was quite hard on the clutch. I think at a point I can smell a little bit of burning from the clutch. ( I never dump the clutch or launch the car or anything stupid like that, all take-offs are done below 2000RPM, mostly 1500RPM or so, I drove very carefully). After that trip, the clutch seems to have smoothed out a bit. Engagement point moved up even higher, close to where it shshould be. Touch the fork and the transmission at idle, now they seem to vibrate togather.
But whenever I'm taking off in first, the pedal feels like it's dragging. And the weird thing is, if I try to take off in second gear ( of course with a little bit higher engine rev ), it doesn't seem to be vibrating as hard, so little, I would consider it normal. same RPM, same pedal height, not as much vibration.
What is happeneing? Is it just the way a new.. OEM clutch is? takes time to smooth out? or that Crappy OEM reman pressure plate spring fingers are out of alignment? Then why is second gear take off that much better? engine movement? maybe? Could engine movement cause the clutch pedal to vibrate? Like, worn engine mount? Flywheel not balanced well?
Not making any abnormal noise so far.
Thank you!
