Gen5 Vvti Gen 4

I was doing some research on the 3SGTE before I buy one for my 91 Celica, and I came across a MR2 forum talking about the 3SGTE VVTI GEN4. They were saying that it can produce more horsepower than the rest of the other Gen's. Is this true? And would this still bolt right in my Celi? They also mentioned red tops were for MR2's or Celi's and black top's were for alteza's. If someone could shed some light on the subject I would appreaciate it.

That VVTI is 3SGE BEAMS engine (NA), not 3SGTE turbocharged engine.
The redtop came in later model NA MR2, and NA Celica outside US. (instead of 5SFE that we have here)
The black top came in IS200 (RWD setup)
It's the best route if you are keeping the car NA.
If you want more power, 3sgte is the solution.

Yes but not recommend. It got higher compression and VVTi. Maybe even returnless fuel system.

Yes, it can be boosted. But the 3SGE BEAMS engine is more expensive than the 3SGTE and the harness is very difficult to find.
