Gen5 Exhaust

Here is the situation guys, my resonator is pretty much rusted and needs to be change. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to just run a straight pipe from the Cat to the muffler to get better performance and a slightly better sound.

I do know that a resonator is “suppose” to just deepen the sound and it doesn't really restrict the flow... anyways I just wanted to test out how it would sound without a resonator with a stock muffler.

Has anyone tired this before … any sort of suggestions or comments will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Note: Car is 1990 celica GTS 2.2 with stock headers and muffler.

Go and see JPG exhaust out in oakvile they will fix your exhaust with a straight pipe for you for under $100. Your exhaust will be slightly louder.

"Slightly louder" is an understatement with the 5sfe. It will be obnoxcious. Ive got header, 2 inch pipe, 2 resonators and a muffler and its still loud. I've got to buy another muffler, one with more "muffling" properties or Im going to drive off a cliff

good move! Glad to hear you do it right. I would have welded a Cherry Bomb resonator right there. but that works too.

I gutted my cat... straight piped it back to a cherry bomb and i think mine sounds Awesome.. its still very deep and i want it louder.. Im going to runn a straight pipe all the way back very soon. In my opinion Celicas deserve to be opened up and let them scream. haha

i have a pacesetter monza dual tip system on my 2.2 5sfte that sounded pretty nice before i boosted my car. Not very obnoxious at all and a deep sound. After i turboed it im running no catalytic converter or resonator and it sounds half as loud. I love not gettin a headache from my exhaust like you get from some civic etc. Anyways.. hoped that helped.

pacesetter is only like 225 also.
