Gen5 Timing Question

Hey i need to know which way i turn the distributer to advance the timing. If im on the Driver side, do i turn it clock wise.... or counter clock wise.. and since i dont have a timing light how far should i turn it?
Also has anyone advanced there timing before? I heard it helps but then again iv heard you wont even feel the difference, i was just wondering what kind of results you guys got or what happend? Did it backfire more or sputter or will it cause anything bad to happen?

clockwise.. since from the angle you are lookin at the intake camshaft, it is turning counterclockwise, you want to move the distributor clockwise so the metal rotar reaches each distributor pin sooner.

Don't touch it without a timing light.

All you are doing is advancing the ignition timing if you go too far all you are going to get is ignition ping and very little in performance if any at all it is best to leave it at manufacturers specifications for performance and efficiency. AND USE A TIMING LIGHT.
