what is this noise? 94 Celica st

my 94 ST has a rattle/Knock from the rear when ever I go over bumps, it sounds JUST like you'd expect if the Deck lid wasn't shut and bouncing up and down. Could this be strut bushings, are they on top of the strut? if I replace them will it need an alignment?.
Im a body man and just painted this car Ohio State Colors, came out beautiful I'll post some pics later on today. thanks

I have a 91 ST that makes the noise but it is certainly a strut in my case. I hit a bump and get the very noise you described. Does your car shake, go to the left or right when you hit a bump, or feel like a tire is bouncing after you hit a bump? One way to see if it is a strut is have someone drive the car where you know you will find some bumps as you follow behind and see if you can see which tire (if any) leaves the ground more than once at least to determine if it is a strut. Example; The passenger side tire hits a bump and leaves the ground 3 times the passenger side strut is weak or shot.

Typically 5th and 6th gen celicas have been known to have bad rear bushings in the locating arms and control arms. I replaced all the bars in the back of my 91GT and the struts/mounts. Could be any number of things, the struts being one, bad mounts another, bar bushings, loose exhaust.

Get it checked by a trusted mechanic
