When Removing The Crankshaft

hey, i spun a rod bearing in myh 5sfte, and am replacing the crankshaft. i have 2 questions.. first off.. i removed the bolt in the crank pully, but the pully still is not coming off.. is the only way to get the special tool? and 2nd, i read somewhere that u need to remove the transmission to remove the crank.. is this true? i am assuming it is, because that makes sense, but its just a pain in the ass.. anyways.. let me know.. Thanks

Yes I believe you have to remove the transmission to get the crank out because it is attached to the flywheel.

Using a pulley puller might be the easiest way to remove the pulley but there are other ways.

Remember to check and remeasure all the crap under there.

you need to get a harmonic balance puller to get the crank pulley off, and then the tansmission has to come off, and then the main caps and rod caps. You might want new main cap bolts and rod bolts too when you replace the bearings.

Take the whole thing out and rebuilt it. It'll last longer.
If you need the car, find another cheap 5S and throw it in.

Make sure to get the rods resized or get new ones. The rods wear on the big end and cause problems like spun bearings.

I agreee with Pinnapple. Just pull the motor and get it over with. Buy a rebuild kit and do it right. It will be easier in the long run than trying to roll in bearings and a crank from under the car and you will have a better job too.
