clutch problem???

i have a 2000 celica gts. when ever i drive i put the car in gear and accelerate the rpm starts to rev (clutch slippage?). the car is picking up speed but the rpm is at like 6000 then starts to drop as soon as i decelerate. there is also a nasty smell that comes from the trany or engine after i drive a while. need some help..

That is clutch slipping.
How old is the clutch.
You probably need a new one.

i haven't changed it since i got the car. but im guessing it still the stock clutch.

Previous owner probobly didnt know how to drive it and burned the hell out of it. My 91 had the original clutch in it up until this past summer. 235000km, not bad. lol

Pick up a new clutch plate, pressure plate and throw out bearing and have it all installed and you wont have that trouble anymore
