83 Celica won't start

1983 Celica GT 22REC. EFI auto trans.

Turns over. Plugs spark (new plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor). Coil tests good as does igniter box. Fuel getting to injectors. New fuel pump, fuel filter. Injectors test good on resistance check, but don't seem to be operating when engine is cranked. I doubt all four would fail at once.

When it turns over, flame occasionally explodes from throttle body air intake. BOOOM! so there is a spark somewhere.

I think it's the ECU. It doesn't seem to be sending signal to injectors. I don't won't to replace ECU ($) without first checking all other options. Bad inputs to ECU could make it not send injector signal.

Whadya think?

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Check your timeing before you buy a computer. After I did my rebuild I had mine set at 180deg and is sounded like your symptoms.

When did this start? were you working on it?

It would be helpful to know how it began and any history of the car as David said. It definately sounds like timing to me. The CPU is a possibility but I have thrown ECUs at problems before just to find out I have a spare ECU.
