New 90 GT owner

I just recieved a 90 Celica GT for free from my brother after selling him my 90 Acura Legend, I used to have a 89 Celica ST back when I was 16 and knew little to nothing about cars, so now i'm 22 and I really enjoy having one again since I loved the one back in the day, the seats are wonderfull and I've missed the door arm rest forever, not as comfortable as my 89 was but close.

Now to the details about the car.. its seriously a piece, its red and there isnt any clear coat left, had some serious oil and power steering fluids leaks, some broken vac lines and missing drivers side mirror, the front pumper is scuffed up, the rear side has a horrible bondo job from a accident, the trunk smells like mildew from dents in it making it leak, cruise control doesnt work and the switch is broken, interior looks good but very dirty, and the car doesnt seem to have had a tuneup in years.

so far i fixed a broken coolant valve for gas tank pressure, replaced the black and leave covered filter with a new looking K&N i found at the scrap yard, fixed oil leaks at the oil filter, distributor and valve cover gasket and used some epoxy to glue a 89 celica drivers side mirror on just so i can get an inspection sticker untill i find another 90 mirror. next i have to replace the power steering hose since its a problem on these cars.. ive replaced atleast 5 of them on friends celicas and camerys already..

I have 1 question for you guys though.. this car seems to not have nearly the power as my 89 ST did, if you floor it the rpms rise very slow and the exhaust just sounds like a humming sound although i dont see any exhaust leaks.. i'm thinking maybe the cat might be melted/clogged so ill problem remove it, these cars have 2 cats right if i'm not mistaken, one small precat right after the exhaust manifold and another under the center of the car right?

ill probably post some pics soon of how ghetto this car actually looks, i have no clue what i plan on doing this but ill have a better idea once i run a compression check on it. what is the engine code for a 90 celica gt coupe 3sfe?? what is the horsepower rated?

ok, no replies lol, found out its a 2.2 5sfe, did a tune up, adjusted the throttle cable and the car has much more power,

I still have a humming like droning exhaust sound thats more present inside the car than out and all the exhaust is stock and dont see any leaks...

Fellow 90 GT owner

Greetings...depending on where your car was sold you may have one or two cats. All the 5SFE's had the main cat connected to the exhaust manifold. California models had an additional sub cat located after the flex joint.

I also made my own CAI out of 3" and 2" PVC piping, AEM filter and a K&N Breather to act as a bypass incase of deep puddle. Really increased perfomance noticably and looks and sounds pretty good IMHO.

email me at all_wolf@hotmail.com and I'll send you pics of the CAI.

I also removed the rear seat, used it's hingegs to creat a flip up flat deck in the rear and put my amps under it. Replaced the stock wing, replaced the frontfenders with fiberglass Z3 type and repaired the bumper cover where my sone put it in a ditch (reason fenders got replaced too. Put in a shortshifter. Working on a grounding system now. Many other projects to do too...would like to get an extra motor, and rebuild it so it will be fresh when and if this one gives up the ghost, but it is still running strong..good acceleration but hits the speed limiter at 115 MPH and chops the ignition. Thought about trying to defeat the limiter or replace the ECU but don't need to go faster than 115. Would rather beef up the acceleration and 1/4 mile performance.
