replacing engine help please

first post for me so sorry if i screw up... anyway

i need help so bad. i have a st162 celica with 3fse. the previous engine blew up and over the past err 6 months i have been replacing the engine. i got a low milage long engine from a camry (so im told) its an import motor so im missing a fair amount of polution gear.

now to the problem since its taken so long ive forgoten where some bits go and i cant find wat i need in the manual.

so 1. where do the 2 vacume lines on the power steering pump go.
2. where does the line on the bottom of the charcol cannister go.
3. there is a small about 5-6mm diamiter line running perpendicular to the inlet manifold runners with 2 lines comming off of it.. where do these go.

can anyone who has swapped an engine warn me of any common pit falls. ive done quite a few engine swaps but nothing east-west fuel injected or fwd.. or toyota for that matter.

cheers for any help

Are you putting in another 3sfe?

I dont have one of these cars but on ever car in the engine bay somewhere there is a vacuum diagram. See if this helps

it dosnt look like you have a manuel. the manuel can show you whre everything goes. its very help full. now about the vac line for the charcole canister, heres a diagram:

as you can see its connects to the BVSV sensor, just follow the #3 vac line. the two line from the powersteering, both connect to a metal lines that are connected to the back of the intake manifold, its called the air tube in this diagram.

i do have a manual but it doesnt hav some of the litle things... i dont have a BVSV or EGR VACUME MODULATOR or EGR VALVE so i have connected line 3 direct to the throttle body that should work right... its the same line with some components cut out. but where does the bottom (fresh air ?) line connect and the other line on the top... fuel tank maybe.

being an import motor from a camry it doesnt have all the emmision gear it should but i will sort that once its all running

i thought the power steering connected there cool.

thanks so far just need those last 2 lines on the charcole cannister

^You should still have all the emission parts from your old engine. Put them back on. Your ECU may go crazy without them.

normally yeah i would cram them back on... unfortunatley a few of them have been... well stuffed. i got quite angry with the old engine (and its previouse mechanic but thats another story). lets just say hitting the engine repeatedly with a crow bar after the millionth time that you hit urself/snapped bolts/bent tools/things fallen on your head while your laying in a pool of oil/grazed nuckles, is not part of the standard engine removal technique.

due to the engine being cooked some of the bits where in doubt anyway.

on that note anyone now how hot an engine has got to make the standard exhaust manifold glow bright red?

more importantly charcol canister vacume lines ^^^^^

the charcol canaster has three lines, one the vacume line (which you know) the other nest to it is the fuel vent line, Not the fuel return line, so locate that, if you can find it just put the old hose on it and just follow the flow of the line to locate the vent line. the third line is the drain at the bottom, it can just hang out by itself or you can connect it to the drain plug located under the canister, in the body.

the part in the diagram above labled air tube behind the inlet manifold... at one end there are a couple of fittings that go to power steering. i need to make sure wat the other end (right side in that diagram) connects to.

need some more help

ok so its turning over but its not firing. checked the fault codes and it just flashes non stop with no codes... is that good or bad. also noticed the hazards flash about 10 times after a minute or so.

so it turns over. but wont fire. seems to be getting fuel. has no cold start injector now. will it need that pluged in before the computer will let it go.

wat am i missing

the codes flashing non stop mean no codes so you're ok there. check the distributor wiring make sure everything pluged in. and plug in everything else too (cold start, etc.) , just to eliminate any issues. check to see if theres spark, and check to see if the fule pump is getting voltage.

ok im getting spark. fuel is definatley getting past the fuel filter.

my thoughts are on these three items

1. i think the battery may hav dropped a cell. will this stop an engine from starting

2. the injectors hav a very slightly different plug so ive cut the old plugs of the loom and put new ones on

3. the distributer on the new engine is different to the original (hall effect as apposed to optical...or something) . the rotor needed replacing but i could not get the correct parts so i changed the distributor over with the old 1.
