Mod for intake on 89 GT

I've got an 89 GT and was wondering what everyone thought of this kind of an intake:

Let me know what you guys think and if it's worth it. Also, does it make the car sound too loud or obnoxious, and does it really help that much, and also, is it easy to make the fix?

Unless you manufacture some sort of a heat shield you wind up pulling in all hot air via the engine compartment. You will however see a very moderate gain on the intake improvement. Not much realy. You will have better in-flow of HOT air as opposed to maybe a little less but cooler air.
The problem most people do not realize is that where you put in you in turn must put out.
I always tell people if you are not going to upgrade the headder on out, there is not a whole lot of point to modding the air going in.
