Short Ram or Cold Air Intake

I use my 04 gt-s as a daily driver and have been wanting to put a new intake on it. Ive heard that the Cold Air Intake system gives me the most power, but do you have to worry about water getting into the engine. Also how much power does the short ram system typical give you. Basically for a daily driver what is the best intake system

Gen5

If you want to run a cold air intake, you should also install a bypass on it. If your filter gets into water the bypass will open and prevent water from be drawn up your intake.

Thanks for all your input guys, how much power can a short ram intake add. Also, ive heard at low speeds the short ram sucks hot air from the engine compartment resulting in a power loose........Sorry for all the questions, i just want to make sure im getting my moneys worth

Short ram does not sound half as good as a a cold air intake like Injen (arguably, the best for the 2ZZ). Then again, the stock airbox on Corolla XRS is more limiting than that of Celica GTS for better fuel economy and muffling the sound at 8400 rpm. Injen truly on the XRS version of 2ZZ brings out the aggression of this motor. SRI intake does not yield the kind of strong pull at the top end as the CAI does. You don't know what you will be missing on. Besides, SRI sucks in hot air from the engine compartment as opposed to CAI that gets fresh cold air from the outside. A CAI on 2ZZ will almost always give more gains than a SRI.

As for hydrolocking, the CAI is a good 3 feet above the ground behind the bumper. You have to drive through a puddle of water atleast 2 feet deep to be in danger of hydrolocking the car. Besides, there are by-pass filters for cheap that eliminate the possibility of hydrolock. Take my advice, get an Injen CAI or even AEM would not be a bad choice.
