USA i need help

alright

so i blew the tranaxle out of my celica. 90 GT 5-speed

it was horrid.. pieces of the transmission went everywhere... including into my bellhousing and it BROKE my pressure plate... literally seperated the friction surface from the basket. besti can tell something in the spiders f'ed up and they came apart and forced their way OUT of my transaxle

i've got the tranny out of the car sitting in my driveway if anybody wants to see pics

so i got a deal on another tranny... its coming out of a 91 camry with the 3SFE and a 5-speed.... problem solved. i know the final drive ratio is different, so what. at least it will work

i've figured out that i'm going to have to use my 5SFE flywheel, and then a camry pressure plate, disc, and throw-out bearing to achieve proper operation.

the donor camry has 208k miles on it and was well taken care of all its life... including regular transaxle fluid changes.

i want to do this and get it over with.. i figure i can fix it using the donor car's pressure plate, T.O.B, and buying a new disc for a camry of that year. all in all i'll have about $50 in it to fix it plus my time.

but then again here's another problem

my 5SFE has not been taken care of. it puffs a lil smoke on startup and i know the bottom end can't be in that good of shape. so here's a question.

can i get the 3SFE out of the camry and put it in my celica ? will the wiring harness plug in and will the ECU be compatible with the sensors ?

only reason i ask is because i don't know the history of the car's maintenance and for having 116k miles its beat. i know the history of the 3SFE and it was well taken care of.. so i know i'd be getting a good engine

i've got $500 in this car and i'm NOT going to bother with a wiring harness / ECU swap... its pointless... not to mention i'd be loosing power and displacement.

i'm fairly experienced when it comes to most car stuff and i'm pretty confident i could do it AS LONG AS i dont have to mess with wiring.

my celica is a MAP setup... the camry is a MAP/MAF setup. can i just not use the maf and keep my celica's wiring harness and ECU ? will the engine run ? or not ?

i noticed that both engines are nearly identical with the only differences i notice being the MAF sensor and a lil diff. distributor

i would really apprecieate some input if possible.

if all else fails.. eiether way i'm pulling the donor tranny tomorrow and buying a disc and piecing parts together to get this car back on the road in the next day or two. i'm tired of not having a car. its been a month now and i'm fed up!

You can use the 3SFE engine with the 5SFE electronics, but it probably won't run 100% perfect.
Also, if you swap in the 3SFE, you WILL be losing displacement and power.

yep i second that, you can use the 3sfe block, and bolt the 5sfe head and other goodies onto it. i've got a car that had that done to it. It's not a terrible power loss, but you do notice it.
