Celica transmission help!

I have a 1982 Celica GT(RA64) and the tranmission has been slipping really badly and I have decided that it's time to replace it. I have the know how and the money to buy and install one, but I can't seem to find one for my car. The car is a 4-speed auto with over-drive. I found one for an 84' celica gt, but I'm not sure if I can use it, because I don't know if it's any different. If anyone could help me out with this one I would really appreciate it, thanks!

82 to 85 Supra and Celica autos are interchangeable.
You can also use the auto box from Coronas, Cressidas and Crown from similar years.
In fact almost an automatic Toyota from 1978 to 1985 can provide an A40D gearbox.
If you use an auto that was attached to a M series engine, then make sure you use your old bellhousing.
You might have to use the speedo drive gear from your old gearbox, depending on the donor car's diff ratio (ie speedo might be incorrect range).

If you are not sure, then look at the gearbox code on the build plate on the firewall in the engine bay (for an RA64 it should say A40D).
Then look for a donor car of similar age that also says A40D on the build plate.

Be careful about starter location; bellhousing may not fit
