3rd Generation Voltage problem, RA64, please help!!

ok, I have a 1982 celica GT(RA64) and I seem to be having a problem with my voltage levels. Rather than running the normal 12-14 volts, I'm running about 18. I thought maybe it was my voltage regulator, but I'm not sure. If anyone could give me some tips, or give me a heads up if this is a normal problem with these cars I would appreciate it a lot. Thanks!

Actually, I just changed the alternator today. That was the problem. It was pumping out about 18 volts for three days and then the damn thing just stopped working. Basically, the whole time it was running at 18 all the lights(headlights, dash lights, dome light, and brake lights) were all running way brighter than they should have been. Also, the stereo would cut out any time I would put the gas in. But yeah, everything is cool now, thanks for posting!

Thanks for letting us know the symptoms of 18 volts. When alternators go out on me usually the alternator would pump less and less volts out till it eventually drains the battery and stops the engine. I found this thread fairly interesting.
