European Union 92 GT Convertible, Idle and Transmission questions.

I just bought a 92 Celica GT Convertable and am currently in the process of fixing it up. It's not in horrible condition, but you can tell that the last person who owned it didn't much care to actually make it run smooth. Anyway, I put this here so that if you see a flurry of posts from me soon, you'll know why.

I've read a lot of references to a sticker being under my hood that tells me what normal idle is for the vehicle. Unfortunetly that seems to be missing (the vehicle was in an accident, there are a lot of weird things going on under that hood.) So, I was wondering two things.

One - What's a good resource for all of the specs on my 92 Celica. Examples: Normal Idle, fuel economy, bhp, torque, etc...

Two- Does anyone know what is normal off hand? It idles at about 800 when I first start it up, sometimes 825 or so. It will drop to 790 or so with a few minutes of running.

Since I'm here, I've got a second question. I was told that it's normal for a 92 model to lag in first gear, I wanted to know if that was true. The acceleration is pretty poor until the rev hits 2000. And it usually thumps into second gear... I'm not to worried about because I haven't done the routine maintanence on the vehicle yet (only had it a couple days) and I figure the last person who owned it never did.

Anyway, any and all answers will be appreciated.

Gen5

I have the idle set in my 90 GT 10 warm idle just about 1000 RPM, cold idle is a little higher..1150 or 1200. The power band for my 5SFE starts at 2000 but not making hard power till at least 2250 to 2500. Try to keep your RPM above 2K, below that and the engine will really be sluggish.

Sorry just read a bit closer and you seem to have an auto..mines a 5-speed.

Hey, Zali - that makes 2 of us... I picked up a cherry condition super white '92 GT convert a couple of weeks back. I don't particularly notice any "lag" in 1st gear (of course, I've been driving 4 cyl's most of my life...)....cars shifts very "firmly" to 2nd, but have read that many times about Celi automatics, so, could be perfectly normal......dunno. Just wonderin'...does yours have the oh so common "trunk edge bend" and "bolt pimple" ??? Thought mine was just a previous owner f/u until I've seen multiple posts/pics of same trunk issue (either side). I absolutely love this car (it replaced a "totalled" Olds 88 - no great loss...LOL ). My only beef is that someone stole the tonneau from the previous-previous owner....local stealership wants $1200 for a new one, so...am "shopping" Everything mechanical/electrical on mine works, except for the dash light that tells you that cruise control is engaged (cc works, just no light....no biggie). Enjoy your GT convert while the weather's nice
