'88 GT 'vert - GTS rear disc brake conversion

Hello,

I recently acquired 1988 Celica convertible. Currently I am going through the car, performing all the essential maintenance. Timing belt, idler/tensioner, h20 pump, etc.

I have also purchased upgraded suspension pieces: KYB GR2 shocks with Suspension Technique lowering springs. Will be replacing CV axles, balljoints & tie rod ends, when installing the shock/springs.

Now for my question: The car has drum brakes on the rear, which I would like to convert over to a disc setup. Knowing that the GTS model came with disc brakes all around, I am interested in knowing if these pieces would be a bolt on solution. Or require some minor modifications.

My other question is in regards to wheels/tires. The car is still riding on its stock 13" rims, so I am looking into buying some 17's. My concern is which size tire and the offset of the wheels themselves, so there's no clearance issues, or rubbing.

Thanks for your feedback.

-David

if you're going to change the rear breaks, you're also going to have to change the front ones. the rear break conversion is a 5 lug bolt pattern vs your 4 bolt. regards to if it'll if, yes it will, it will bolt right on, i would change the break preportioning valve to the gts. as far as tire size i use 205/50 and dont have any clearence issues.

Rear disc brakes are kinda pointless. unless if ABS brakes are put into use. And if you don't have the brakes calibrated right the rear brakes may lock-up before the front ones and that will cause you to loose control of the car. I would suggest lost of testing. Most brake conversions I've seen, are poorly done in that braking distribution is very uneven.
