1983 Celica Questions

sorry, even though ive been registered as a user for a while, ive only been interested in the corollas. ive found a new love to the 3rd gen celicas, and im starting a project car with a 1983 celica 3 dr hatch. the setup im trying to do is for drifting, and i need a few suggestions or ideas from my already thought plans

currently: the cars not running, the fuel injected motor isnt recieving any gas. the previous owner said the problem was the fuel pump/fuel line. the body is in really good condition considering its an 83

my plans: i was thinking about swapping the motor with a 1jzgtte motor. i was thinking that the motor has enough horse and torque to handle drifting, but i have concerns

my concerns: the motor might actually be too big for the engine bay. i have no idea how much space i have with the 83. this brings me to asking my fellow toyota enthusiusts. would i be able to drop the motor in and be able to handle a proper drift setup? or, would there be any other setups, (different motors), that i would be able to have a better setup for drift. thank you for your time and patience and i hope to not be flamed if this topic has already been started.

I'm sure I've seen websites out there with 1JZ and 2JZ motors in a 3rd gen Celica.
Find a motor and measure it up.
Only real concern is whether the sump will clear the crossmember.
Might have to move the radiator to the other side of the radiator support panel.

For a serous drift machine you will want LSD.
Finding a T series LSD can be hard and you are still stuck with a solid axle.
Luckily you can take the rear from a 85 GT-S Supra and bolt it straight in (need to cut off your panhard rod bracket to make room).
It has IRS and the much stronger F series diff is easy to find LSD for (F series was used on the Toyota pickup).

Also give thought to a 1UZ-FE Lexus V8, with or without a pair of turbos added.
One guy even put in a Chrysler 318 engine.

The 22R engine can make serious HP.

hmmmm, u made me think a little bit. when i was working today, i was thinking about the 83 celica gts, and i was wondering. what would be the proper thing to do? im definiently going to do a swap, but what should i do first? set up the car first before the swap, or do the swap first and build the car setup off of the motor? and also, ive been practicing for the past year and a half with drifting, ive checked all the motors, and hp does really count, im undecided about the motor, but if anyone knows which one is better for oversteering, please can u tell me? i want to be able to get more oversteer, but enough so that i can counter.

the 22r motors with a 20r head head on them can make good horse power numbers, and the 22r is known for having good amount of torque. i'm building one right now that i'm estimating will put out 250+ hp. get a good clutch, lightweight flywheel, lsd, and good suspension and drifting shouldn't be a problem
