Cd Player Skips

I have a 92 Celica GT and just installed the original CD Player. Took out the little glove box that goes below the radio and plugged connector to the socket behind original radio. Component looks great but if I play a CD, music skips when I hit a bump on the road.
Is this normal for the 92 or do I need to upgrade to something newer?

I hate to get rid of the Original component but just want to know if there's a problem with the component .

CD players are a wear item. I suggest replacing if skipping irritates the crap out of you. Not much one can do to fix such a problem. Drive smooth, replace struts/springs/get bigger tires (p195 80 r14) deflate to 10psi under rating and maybe it won't skip.

I read on another thread that if the car vibrates CD would skip.
Well, the car vibrates a lot.
And you're right. Wear and technology improvements would merit a new CD.
But it would mean I would have to tear out the old speakers, rewire the power antenna and put a new Amp to get decent sound.

Guess I'll have to put new Engine Mounts to improve my ride .

Thanks for the advise!!!

These Toyota CD players were known for having problems. You might see if you can isolate the CD player with rubber grommets or something like this, rather then rework your suspension.

Toyota has crappy CD players as I have found in 2 MR2s and a Celica I have owned. Go on ebay and find something aftermarket. I have one in my car that is identical to the one I linked below. It was made around 1993 and is made in Japan like the rest of the car. It has NEVER skipped on me and worked flawlessly always.

This one is missing the wires so I would not get it but look for a similar one that was built in the ealry 90s casue they will still be made in Japan. Since the late 90s most all have been built in China and quality has gone into the crapper. I bought a Pioneer dehp2000 in 1999 for $200+ and found it to be inferior the old one I had so I put the old one back in.

This type of radio is a steal at todays' prices.

not exactly, I installed a Pioneer DEHP3600 in my 1993, no problems, and fairly straigtforward installation. You only need a wiring harness, which any car audio place or large electronics store should have. It's not as hard as it seems, and you can run the stock speakers if you don't intend to be blasting music at high volume levels. the unit wasn't very expensive either, but mine's a 600 series, and Pioneer's to the 800 series ones now. the 3800 is under $200 I think

Went back and retightened screws for bracket
Put in a Rubber grommet I had laying around and CD doesn't skip as much now, it does it only if I hit a big bump.
But I pulled the antenna wire and now distant stations fade in and out. it's not on the radio connector nor the power antenna, already tried it.
Fix one thing, busted another.
Thanks for all the great comments!!!!
