Question I got Issues, Request help on 91 Celica ST

OK guys and gals I'm hoping to leach some insight from you all, I'm a old school car guy thats not really familiar with the computers of the newer cars, I have a 91 celica ST with the 1.6L 4AFE mill manual trans and 280K on the odometer, the cars has been totalled 3 times and repaired every time, I've owned the car scicne it was 15K miles old and have taken extreemly good care of it, (still got the original clutch, I have a new clutch sitting here for it, the old one refuses to go belly up though!)

The past three days it started developing a problem, the first day the engine cut off once, seeing as I was already rolling the engine kicked itself back over and the car acted like nothing was wrong, I figured it was a fluke and didnt wory about it, day two it did the same thing 3 times, (this got me a bit concerned) and day three 4 times once being it died at idle and started extremly hard with much starter cranking and pumping of the gas pedal....

I did notice that the only time it dies is the first run of the day when it is cold, once the car heats up its fine and doesnt die the rest of the day, I'm thinking its the fuel pump going weird when cold....

fuel pump pressure should be a nominal 45 PSI correct?

anything else that you all have expreienced that I should be looking for?

Could be cold injector/timing switch problem, ignition timing, low idle, weak coil/other ignition part, lose wire. If its fuel pump, you'll have problem all the time. Especially when you floor it.

IF you have never changed the fuel pump, that would be my best guess.

doesnt sound like a fuel pump, sounds more like an ignition coil or plug wires bein tempermental when its cold

OK, Just for giggles seeing as I havent changed the fuel filter in too long I changed that (the whole reason I havent changed it on a regular like the rest of the consumable filter is the fact that the designers in their infinate wisdom stuffed the bloody thing way up under the master cylinder, 3 hours later and a shreeded arm The fuel filter is changed, I metered the fuel pump, and got a fairly consistent 43 to 46 PSI reading, right where it should be... I was not able to locate a code reader (all the ones at the local parts stores are broke) I'll have to make a trip down to my friends garage on mon to get the codes read...unfortunatly, murphys law, I could not get the problem to replicate itself today.... gonna try again tomorrow, I'm leaning towards a few of the little black boxes mounted on the intake plenum...granted I'm not sure what each one is called but I'll figure it out
