Everyone here either owns a toyota or loves them enough to be in this forum. Seriously thinking about it, why do you guys choose toyota? I know there is other good manufucturers but honestly, why toyota?
Reliable.
Early models are easy to work on (1977 for me).
Parts are still easy to find in wrecking yards or order from Toyota (getting a bit harder for early cars though)
Early cars are easy to upgrade to later mechanicals (which are easier to find)
Handling, performance and economy are all reasonable.
Older cars stand out from the crowd.
I don't think Honda has a bad rep at all. I think they are a quality automaker. I think the idiots that rice the fuck out of them have a bad rep lol. Which is why I picked Toyota, to be different.
After my first car died. (Chevy Berreta). Both my brother and I needed a car so we went down to a mitsubishi dealership and found two decent cars, upon test driving both drove extremely well. 1 1992 Celica ST and a 1996 buick century. I just happened to come across a toyota in that example. I stick by toyota because I've never replaced anything major in the past twoyears I've owned toyota. Most expensive repair was brake rotors.

Why post the same question over and over?

Because I grew up with Toyota Cars in the Family.. My older brother had a KP61 Starlet slalom car during the 80's and another brother of mine had a TE27 Sprinter/Trueno drag car he race illegally in the streets of Manila (Ortigas) and eventually turned legal thru PDRF (Phil Drag Racing Federation) in the late 80's.. I had my first car at the age of 12 in 1988 (KE35 SR coupe) which is shown in my pics below.. I still have that car after 18yrs from the time it was handed down to me by my father and I keep it as a legacy to him until now.. We have counltess Toyotas and did all type of engines swaps and conversion in the 90's.. from 2TG to 4AGE's to 3SGE's to 3KC turbo.. from JDM to EUDM conversion.. from Webbers to Mikunis.. From TRD's to Tom's...From Street to Tarmac so ask me why Toyota? I say because its in our blood... I'd be caught dead first before I ride a Civic..
well, here's something for yall.
my mom got a 1981 Pontiac sunbird as her first car, it had the exhaust fall off, and the clutch needed replacement at 27000 mi. she sold it, got a 1984 Celica GT, and that thing is still running (not well in the past 2-3 yrs., but hey). shows you a difference in quality. yeah, the big 3 have improved some, but toyota is good quality wise.
also, they're not too difficult to repair. and they get great fuel mileage
plus, I've always been attracted to the Celica, what a great car, sad to see it replaced with a scion.
the only downside: Toyota is getting rid of great stickshift cars left and right.
I'll go with reliablity....have owned 1980 celica back in 1982. went from there to a 1989 4runner...still driving 324000 km and no engine work done at all. Now my sons,1 has a cressida, the other has gone from 1982 tercel which he loved to a 1986 carolla and now he has a nice 86 toyota celica.....perhaps it's a family thing!...lol

Yes in the WORLD, but in many middle America and down South towns blindly buy the JUNK that the big three crank out too them! I lived in Southern Indiana and had a Toyota Corolla it was the ONLY one in a town of 2,000 people!!

Exactly. Also, in the US Toyota is not looked at in terms of performance (Mainly because the lack of production of 3SGE/3SGTE in multitudes like other counties). When you say import performance here, first thing that comes to most peoples minds is Honda or BMW lol.
I've owned a 1991 celica for over 4 years now and other then heavy rust (I live on an island off the east coast of canada) and related rusted parts (brake lines, P/S lines, etc) I've really only had to replace the struts/mounts and the brakes, anything else was rust-related.
The engine and gearbox are, thus far, undestructable. If this were any other manufacturer, it would have been dead by now. There is 255,000 KM on this car and is still starts on the first 1/4 turn of the starting motor, purrs at 1000RPM and gears up and down like a 15 year old car should.
