89' Celica Engine/Trani/Sensor Problem

I have a 89 Celica ST and everytime i let it sit for a day or let it get cold (at night) the next day when i start it it takes awhile to start.

When i accelerate right after ignition it runs fine. About 1/4 a mile down the road if i accelerate the car sputters and most likely dies. On the highway if i slow down to 55 and then accelerate to 65 it does the same thing.

Im getting ready to sell the car and if this problem is fixed i could get a lot more out of it.

Ive changed spark plugs, fuel filter, fuel injectors, changed the oil regularly, trani fluid is at the right level.

Please get back to me with a quick response.

I appreciate your help but is there anything that leads you to beleive its an ignition coil?

I dont want to spend money on advice that has no logic.

I got similar problem and it was my coil. Doesn't mean it'll solve your problem.

When the car is hard to start, is the engine just cranks or it fires up but cannot run on its own?

Let try this: crank the engine without pushing accelerator. If the engine will not start, pull out the spark plugs and check them out. If they are wet with raw gas, suspect coolant thermosensor (sends too rich signal to the ECU), if they have oil on the insulator/electrodes clean the pcv system. If they are look normal, re-install the plugs, attach the vacuum gage to the intake plenum, crank the engine and note the reading: 5 to 6 inches is normal; if too low there is a vacuum leak; if too high, the idle passage may be dirty and needed to be cleaned.
Other cases include : bad secondary ignition components, wrong ign. timing, pulling air after air flow meter, defective air flow meter, as well as loose connector on the sensor/switch.
There is not possible to give exact answer right away because such symptoms may be caused by different reasons.

Spark plugs are fine, just replaced them 2 months ago with Bosch 2 Platinum.
What is a the plenum?

MAP sensor is in fine working order. My only question is why does it start perfectly after sitting but after turning it off let it sit for 5 minutes then start again it barely starts and barely moves. Colder the weather the harder it is.

Yesterday after getting off work i had to sit in then parking lot with my foot on the gas to keep the thing idleing so it would warm up. I also noticed that when its kinda warm but not warm enough to run like it supposed to and i step on the gas it jerks forward.

I just bought a ignition coil and will install today, will reply here if that was the ticket.

check for vacum leaks. water + soap + sponge will do the trick

check the compression.
Probably less than $20 at your local store. Disconnect the coil. Remove plug 1, screw this in place and crank the motor. Take the reading on all cylinders. If one or more of them are below normal, then it's time to rebuild your engine.

Proud to announce that i fixed the problem.

In the process of changing out the ignition coil i noticed that the distributor rotor and distributor cap leads were coroded.

Car runs like brand new.

Thanks for the suggestions.
