Okay, I am helping a buddy out with his 92 celica 2.2 liter motor. Awhile back he took his car to a shop to get it inspected and they said he needed a new intake manifold, due to leaks and cracks on it, so he had the intake replace.
And a year later or so he was due for CA smog and he didn't pass. So I checked out the car for him and notice the PCV was block off (or there was no PCV, just the gourmet) some cutting of the throttle cable bracket to fit the new (which was wrong) intake. So I decide to buy a new PCV for him, but it did not bolt on correctly, the PCV had no place to connect to the intake.
After 15 minutes of looking for the connection, I still can not find where the PCV is suppose to connect. So I came to the conclusion that this was the WRONG intake manifold. Did some research, and figure out this was the intake for an 2.0 or smaller motor. We also found out that the 2.2 motor was hard to find, actually we had to SPECIAL ORDER this directly from Japan!
So......... we finally took out the wrong intake manifold and notice some differences. One, the COLD START FUEL INJECTION was on the manifold, which is the one we took out, and the new intake manifod (2.2 motor) had none. Aslo the AIR HOSE with the AVS was with the 2.2 and didn't come with the one on the car.
Would the Air hose with AVS cause us not to pass smog? And does the 2.2 liter engine require a cold start fuel injection? I also tried to trace the wire to the cold start fuel injection to see if that had really been modded, but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. Why would I have a CSFI wire? Could that been modded to make the car run with the wrong intake manifold that was installed from the ghetto shop?
Sorry to make this so long, I don't know anything about Toyota's, any information would be greatly apreciated! Ask me again tommorow or something if I don't make anything clearly, I'm tired and beat and have to go to work early!!!
